ROING, Jul 18: A district level sensitization cum orientation workshop on National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) and Tobacco Control Laws (COTPA, 2003), for district co-ordination committee members and law enforcers, was held at the deputy commissioner’s conference hall here in Lower Dibang Valley district on Wednesday.
Addressing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner cum District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC) chairman Mitali Namchoom said, strict action would be taken against shopkeepers selling cigarettes and other tobacco products illegally within a radius of 100 yards (91.44 meters) of educational institutions.
She also informed that flying squads would be formed to check illegal selling of tobacco products to minors.
DTCC consultant Kopi Ratan gave an overview of the NTCP in the district, while DPO (DTCC) Dr LC Deori highlighted the role of various government departments and other stakeholders in effective implementation of tobacco control programmes and COTPA in the district.
NTCP SPO Dr Biman Natung gave a presentation on the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, COTPA and other tobacco control acts.
Among others, SP S K Sain, DMO R Tatan, MOs, school and college principals were present on the occasion. (DIPRO)
