Student leader arrested for threatening MLA

ITANAGAR, Jul 19: The police here have arrested a student leader for allegedly trying to extort money from Khonsa West MLA Tirong Aboh.
Following the lodging of an FIR by Aboh, the police on Wednesday arrested one Hapwang Lowang, who is reportedly the president of the All Tirap District Students’ Union.
Aboh in his FIR alleged that Lowang along with a friend entered his residence at MLA Cottage area here at around 6:30 on Tuesday evening and misbehaved with him.
“He along with his friend demanded Rs 1,50,000 as extortion money and physically assaulted me. Being a responsible person, I forgave them and requested them to leave without creating public nuisance. But they kept calling me on my phone, again and again, demanding money,” Aboh stated in the FIR.
Talking to this daily, Capital Complex SP Harsha Vardhan informed that, after receiving the FIR, the police acted swiftly and arrested Lowang.
