ITANAGAR, Jul 26: The Apex Tani Foundation (APTAFO) on Thursday announced that it will be organizing Tani Idol-2018, Suron ka maha muqabla – a singing competition themed ‘Harmony through music’ – from the first week of September.
Addressing journalists at the press club here this afternoon, Tani Idol-2018 organizing chairman Nabam Tuna said the state-level event is being organized “with a view to create an atmosphere of affinity and brotherhood among all the six Abo Tani clans – Adi, Apatani, Galo, Nyishi, Mising and Tagin – which have similar linguistic origins.”
He said the event is being organized purely for the purpose of charity and all the proceeds from the sales of the tickets would go to orphanages in the state, including Oju Mission in Naharlagun, and other charitable institutes.
“As for the judges of the event, we have selected seven well-known singers from the all six Tani clans,” Tuna said.
Informing about the selection process, the event’s organizing secretary Ashok Sonam said the contest will have five elimination rounds. Moreover, three winners each from 13 districts will be selected to compete in the first elimination round, while winners of community-based competitions will be selected to take part in the second elimination round, he said.
“We have also included an open category, in which 10 singers will be selected from Assam. The contestants will have to sing folk songs as well as local dialect and Hindi ones,” Sonam said, adding that the first, second and third place winners of the competition will receive a cash prize of Rs 4, 2, and 1 lakh respectively.
Besides the cash prizes, the top three winners will also get the opportunity to sign an audio album contract, he said.
“Forms for the competition will be issued from 1 to 25 August, while those in the districts will get the forms from 1 September,” Sonam informed.
