NESO supports ‘Op Clean Drive’, advocates NRC in all NE states

ITANAGAR, Aug 10: While declaring its support to the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union’s (AAPSU) proposed ‘Operation Clean Drive’ against illegal migrants, the North East Students’ Organization (NESO) has urged the volunteers to ensure that no genuine citizens are harassed during the operation.
NESO organizing secretary Marge Riba and coordinator Pritam Sonam will lead the NESO members during the operation spearheaded by the AAPSU.
During a meeting here, the duo on Thursday appealed to the indigenous people of the state, “including fellow brethren from other states,” to support the AAPSU’s drive.
They also highlighted the NESO’s demand for an NRC in all the northeastern states.
AAPSU general secretary Tobom also agreed with the demand for NRC in all the NE states, and said the base year of 1971, currently adopted for the NRC in Assam, cannot be unanimously accepted for Arunachal Pradesh, saying refugees from Bangladesh had entered Arunachal Pradesh since way before 1971.
