PASIGHAT, Aug 11: The Pasighat People Welfare Committee (PPWC) has expressed strong resentment over the power department’s alleged failure to improve electricity supply in Pasighat and adjoining areas.
Despite offering assurances, the department has miserably failed to provide regular power supply from the 132 kv Ranganadi-Aalo-Pasighat transmission line, the PPWC said.
During a meeting held here on Saturday, members of the PPWC, led by its president Okom Yosung, said they would constitute a committee to study “the technical faults responsible for erratic power supply in the area.”
The committee will also chalk out plans to prevent illegal power tapping, the PPWC said.
It called for developing a mini-hydroelectric project in the Siang region to meet the electricity demand in the region. It also said it would move the PHED, the health department, and banks to ensure provision of round-the-clock services.
Officials from different government departments, representatives of the Pasighat Market Association and the Mebo Power Consumer Forum, students, and members of community organizations attended the meeting.
