KHONSA, Aug 24: Plying of heavy trucks between Hukanjuri (Assam) and Longding via Khonsa after 10 pm has been restricted in order to avoid untoward incidents involving antisocial elements.
The decision was taken during an emergency coordination meeting of truckers from Joypur and Dibrugarh, the APP, village chiefs, GBs and the Tirap district administration here on Friday.
DC PN Thungon urged the people of Tirap, the Truck Union of Joypur, and the people of Joypur to maintain their age-old cordial relationship.
He assured to have CCTV cameras installed and helpline centres set up at the check gates and sensitive points for the safety and security of travellers and drivers.
The DC also urged the unions and the people of Joypur area to desist from resorting to the chakka bandh culture, saying it hampers the economic growth and relations between the two neighbouring states.
The representatives from Assam called for a lasting solution to the frequent problems faced by drivers plying on the road.
The chiefs and GBs of various villages in Tirap have been instructed to control the youngsters of their respective villages from indulging in antisocial activities or taking the law in their hands.
Later, all the representatives put their signatures to an agreement to maintain peace. (DIPRO)
