CHIMPU, Aug 27: A two-day workshop on mountain terrain biking (MTB), organized by the youth affairs directorate in collaboration with the Arunachal Cycling Association (ACA), got underway at the Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy (SLSA) here on Monday.
Sports Authority of Arunachal (SAA) Chairman Bamang Tago highlighted the benefits of cycling and the need to promote cycling for a healthy lifestyle.
“Cycling on a daily basis increases cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength and flexibility, improves joint mobility, decreases stress levels, and reduces anxiety and depression,” Tago said.
He urged the public to promote cycling in the capital complex to reduce pollution and traffic congestion.
Resource persons from Guwahati are conducting the workshop.
Sports Director Tadar Appa, SAA Director Gumya Karbak, ACA general secretary Tadar Gunu, Youth Affairs Joint Director Ramesh Linggi, and SLSA Principal Tabia Chobin attended the inauguration function.
“A mass ride programme will be conducted on 28 August to promote cycling in the state. It will start from the SLSA ground and cover Jullang, Naharlagun, Shiv Mandir, Ganga and back,” informed the youth affairs directorate’s Adventure Cell In-charge KR Meetei.
He also informed that the ‘MTB Tawang Challenge’ would be held from 22 to 28 October, coinciding with the Tawang Festival.
