TAWANG, Sep 16: Season 3 of Mon Sergyeling and Mon Rigzshung Sergyeling – the biggest singing talent hunt of the Mon region – began with much fanfare at Kalawangpo Hall here on 16 September.
Organized by the Film Federation of Monyul, the talent hunt is an initiative of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, and is aimed at providing a platform to youngsters from Monyul region (Tawang and West Kameng districts) to showcase their talent.
Health Minister Alo Libang launched the third season.
In his speech, the minister said music has great healing power, and called the event a welcome step. Describing the chief minister as a “development lover and a music lover,” Libang lauded his contribution in encouraging the singing talent.
Pema expressed happiness that the winner of Mon Sergyeling Season 1, Thutan Tsering, made it to Indian Idol Top 20, and expressed hope that the youngsters would take their singing skills to similar advanced levels.
“In an age where there is huge development in all sectors, youngsters are at the same time influenced by modernization. A platform like Mon Rigshung Sergyeling will encourage the younger generation to embrace our own culture and tradition,” he said.
The winner of Mon Sergyeling will be awarded Rs 8 lakhs, with Rs 4 lakhs and Rs 2 lakhs for the first runner-up and the second runner-up, respectively.
The winner of Mon Rigzshung Sergyeling will be awarded Rs 5 lakhs, with Rs 3 lakhs and Rs 2 lakhs for the first runner-up and the second runner-up, respectively. (CMO)
