ITANAGAR, Sep 28: The capital complex administration has started impounding stray animals that have been left in the open by their owners.
A team led by Itanagar EAC Hengo Basar, CO Bittu Kri, and veterinarians Dr G Piel (IMC) and Dr Sorang Tadap (forest) impounded around 20 animals on Friday. Some animals were later returned to the owners on payment of penalty, while the rest were auctioned off.
“Despite repeated notices and warnings, the owners are not taking adequate measures to keep these animals off the public places and roads,” Deputy Commissioner Prince Dhawan said.
He requested the residents of the capital complex to cooperate with the administration and not let loose their stray animals.
The DC said the administration would continue with the drive while also observing the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Meanwhile, the EAC urged the capital’s residents to follow-up on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and help maintain a clean environment by not letting their animals loose on the streets. (DIPRO)
