HAYULIANG, Sep 30: State Information Commissioner (SIC) Matem Linggi said information sought under the Right to Information (RTI) Act by any applicant must be provided within the stipulated period.
He said this during a ‘basic training-cum-awareness programme on provisions of the Right to Information (RTI) Act’ for officers from various departments, held here on Sunday.
He said if the documents sought are not available with the public information officer (PIO) to whom the RTI application has been submitted, the officer should forward the application to the PIO with whom the information is available.
Linggi also explained certain exemption cases which are not covered under the RTI Act.
“If the information seeker belongs to a below-poverty-line family, the documents must be provided free-of-cost,” he specified.
