JNC teachers, students build embankment

PASIGHAT, Oct 1: The Jawaharlal Nehru College (JNC) unit of the Arunachal Pradesh College Teachers’ Association on Sunday undertook a relief mission in aid of the flood ravaged villages of Borguli and Seram.
Faculty members and students of the college, along with NCC and NSS volunteers and others built a 200-metre-long embankment beside the Siang river on the outskirt of Borguli, using 2000 sandbags, to prevent further soil erosion.
They also donated Rs 10,000 to Borguli and Rs 30,000 to Seram village to help the affected villagers.
The JNC Alumni Association also extended a helping hand to the Borguli villagers by donating 12 shovels and 12 hoes for use in building flood-control embankments.
The Siang Affected Village Forum, led by IPR Director Obang Tayeng, also donated money for taking up anti-erosion measures in villages in Mebo. The forum has appealed to the state and the central governments to take up effective anti-erosion measures in the area.
