ITANAGAR, Nov 15: Governor BD Mishra has greeted the state’s media community on the occasion of National Press Day (NPD), and expressed hope that the occasion would reinforce the commitment of the people towards freedom of the press.
“The press media in our country has achieved very high standards of societal responsibilities and it is actively promoting news dissemination. It is gratifying to see that the media has been successful in giving itself the much-needed progressive turn, keeping in pace with the changing times of globalization,” the governor said in his message.
The chief minister in his message said: “The 16th of November is symbolic of a free and responsible press in India. This was the day on which the Press Council of India (PCI) started functioning. Since its inception on 16 November, 1966, the PCI has come a long way and proved its worth as a moral watchdog to ensure that not only the press maintains high standards expected from it, it is also not fettered by influence or threats of any extraneous factors.”
Pema said the press persons of Arunachal, despite several hurdles, have been working day and night to keep the people informed, and creating opinions through their writings, reports, films and documentaries. He expressed hope that the state’s media would continue to uphold the ethics of journalism and educate the masses. (Raj Bhawan and CMO)
