Kenli & Karli clinch men’s doubles open title
RONO HILLS, Nov 22: The pair of postgraduate students Kenli Riram and Karli Poyom clinched the men’s doubles open title after defeating the pair of Dagge Ango and Modak Kadu 21-12 and 21-17 in the final of the 6th University Badminton League organised by the Officers’ Club of Rajiv Gandhi University (OCRGU) here on Wednesday.
In the intra-club doubles final, the pair of Dr David Pertin and Pura Deilyang emerged champions after defeating Terge Sora and Dr Tadam Ruti 21-17 and 21-19.
In another keenly contested match for the third place in the open category, the research scholar pair of Techi Sissal and Krishna Chetry defeated the officer duo of Dr Gibji Nimasow and Pura Deilyang 21-14 and 21-18.
Kenli Riram of the sociology department bagged the ‘best player of the championship’ award.
Fifty-four-year-old player Hage Kojee, the lone girl player Gunia Dele, and Opang Paron were declared the ‘strongest player of the tournament’, ‘rising star of the tournament’ and ‘upcoming player of the tournament’, respectively.
Addressing the valedictory function, RGU Controller of Examination (in-charge) Dr Nani Tamang Jose commended the sportsman spirit shown by the players, and assured to extend all possible support to improve the sports infrastructure in the varsity campus in the days to come.
RGU Joint Registrar Dr David Pertin praised the OCRGU for creating “an exclusive ambience of sports where all could come together and play.”
He also hailed the players for their spirit of participation.
OCRGU chairman Dr Gibji Nimasow and the club’s convenor Pitam Jomoh also spoke.
