ITANAGAR, Nov 23: The Arunachal Youth Organisation (AYO) has demanded creation of the post of an independent and separate director of the mental health department.
In a representation to the health & family welfare minister, the organisation stated that the lone mental health centre in Midpu is facing hardship in administration because of the absence of an independent director.
With growing drug addiction and rise in the number of mentally challenged patients, the mental health centre needs to be well-equipped with staff and doctors, the AYO said.
It also demanded early renovation of the mental health centre and equipping it with adequate infrastructure.
Since its establishment, the AYO said, mental health centre in Midpu “has become a cattle shed due to unavailability of staff. The relatives of mentally challenged patients are reluctant to admit their relations as there are no adequate infrastructure.”
It urged the minister to take serious note of the situation and initiate early action in the matter.
