ITANAGAR, Nov 27: After receiving reports of citizens having difficulty in accessing the emergency helpline number ‘100’, the capital police have launched ‘6909182212’ as the new number for people to reach the police for assistance.
Capital SP M Harsha Vardhan informed that some areas of the capital district are facing problems in connecting to the ‘100’ number.
“We are taking up the issue with the ‘100’ number in some areas with the concerned agency,” he said. “We are committed to ensuring round-the-clock access to police when citizens want it.”
The new number connects to the district control room, and will take calls related to all the police stations in the district (Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa).
In addition, the police stations will continue to have the landline numbers which are already with the public.
“I would urge the public not to misuse this number by giving blank calls, false information, etc. Not only will such acts invite criminal action against the caller, it will also engage law enforcement resources that could’ve been used productively elsewhere,” the SP said.
