ZIRO, Dec 13: The district level Khelo India, an initiative of the sports department to encourage the youths in sports, concluded at the Danyi Kunya GHSS playground here in Lower Subansiri district on Thursday.
Yazali GHSS were the winners in both football and volleyball tournaments, while Danyi Kunya GHSS were the runner-up in the boys’ category.
In girls’ football, Danyi Kunya GHSS were the winners and Yazali GHSS the runner-up.
ADC Gombu, who distributed the prizes to the winner and the runner-up teams, advised the students to make sports a part of their life.
DDSE Hibu Tama and DSO (Sports) Ajong Sitek exhorted the students to channel their energy through sports activities.
In Namsai, the eight-day Khelo India district level tournaments concluded with an impressive function at the district headquarters on Thursday.
Addressing the valedictory function, Namsai ADC Bijoy Talukdar stressed on the importance of games and sports, and highlighted the government’s initiatives to promote sports by keeping reservation for sportspersons in government departments.
Former ZPC CK Mounglang described the Khelo India initiative as a platform for the young talents of the district to showcase their talents. He advised the youths to maintain discipline and play with sportsman’s spirit in the future.
In boys’ football, Tai Brothers FC emerged the winners, beating Adi-Ningroo village in a penalty shootout 4-3. In girls’ football, Rangalibeel GSS beat Kumari GSS.
Lathao GHSS lifted the winner’s trophy for boys’ volleyball, beating Manhofai GSS in straight sets, and Mahadevepur GHSS beat Namsai GHSS in straight sets in girls’ volleyball final.
The prizes were given away by Mounglang, district BJP president Chow Sujana Namchoom, the Old Mohong GHSS principal and the DFSCO. (DIPROs)
