ITANAGAR, Jan 7: Amid continuing objections and protests from various organizations over the allotment of government land for establishing the state BJP’s office, the foundation stone for the office was laid on Monday by the party’s Northeast general secretary (org) Ajay Jamwal amid heavy deployment of police personnel at the IG Park tennis court area here.
A number of organizations and NGOs have expressed reservations over the allotment of the plot of land to the state BJP, as the area in question is a space which is used by citizens to celebrate important government events or to stage protests.
The CM said the party office would be built using funds obtained through contributions from well-wishers, and from the party’s own resources. Pema himself contributed Rs 20 lakhs out of pocket for the construction of the office.
He said he has held discussions with various organisations, and that the concern expressed by them is genuine.
The CM assured to provide land for establishing a “protest area” in a centrally located area of the capital and equip it with toilet facilities, water and electricity supply, and sheds.
“The government is not opposed to any protest culture and it very much appreciates that protests are a part and parcel of democracy,” he said. (CMO)
