HDMT: West Siang boys win football trophy

SYA dept will get ‘extra attention’, says Mein

TEZU, Jan 17: West Siang defeated Upper Subansiri 2-1 in the boys’ football final for the 3rd U-18 state Level Hangpan Dada Memorial Trophy (HDMT) at Jubilee Ground here in Lohit district on Thursday.
Nyogo Doji scored the first goal for Upper Subansiri in the 4th minute of the match. However, the marauding start of Upper Subansiri was short-lived as Joshep Chiji scored the first goal for West Siang in the 46th minute.
The final match was settled at 2-1 after Moken Loya of West Siang scored a goal in the 71st minute. Kulin Raji of Upper Subansiri was declared the best player in boys’ football.
In boys’ volleyball final, Kamle defeated Capital Complex 20-25, 9-25, 25-22, 17-25, and Dora Select of Kamle team was declared the best player.
In girls’ volleyball final, Kurung Kumey trounced Capital Complex 25-18, 27-25, 25-13, and Taba Yag of Kurung Kumey was declared the best player.
Later, attending closing ceremony of the HDMT football and volleyball tournaments, Deputy CM Chowna Mein said the sports & youth affairs (SYA) department would be given “extra attention in the coming budget.”
Mein said the department would be accorded importance “at par with other major departments of the state,” and urged young boys and girls of the state to take up sports professionally.
The DCM informed that another sports academy will be coming up, in the eastern sector of the state, and added that Arunachal would be capable of hosting regional and national level sports events soon “as every district will have a stadium of its own.”
He said that, after the establishment of Sangey Laden Sports Academy in Chimpu, there has been a remarkable improvement in games and sports activities.
“Our young boys and girls have been doing well and bringing laurels to the state by winning medals in various national and international sports events,” Mein said.
Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Dr Mohesh Chai and Sports Director Tadar Appa also spoke.
A souvenir of the tournament was also released on the occasion. (With DCMO input)
