Yomgo River Festival begins

AALO, Feb 1: The Yomgo River Festival (YRF) began on a colourful note on the right bank of the Yomgo river here in West Siang district on Friday.
Attending the inaugural function, Tourism Minister Jarkar Gamlin and Deputy Speaker Tumke Bagra said such festivals are organised in different parts of the state to promote tourism and showcase the areas’ rich culture, and that hospitality should be the watchword during such festivals.
The duo exhorted everyone to make all-out efforts to make the YRF a yearly calendar event in the district.
“All districts where such festivals have been celebrated for three consecutive years have been placed in the calendar events of the state for yearly celebration through government funding and support,” they added.
West Siang DC Swetika Sachan also spoke.
Apart from cultural troupes from Tirap and Longding districts, the festival will also have singer Sonu Nigam entertaining the crowd on the second day. (DIPRO)
