Union alleges fund misuse, seeks CM’s intervention

ITANAGAR, Feb 2: The All Arunachal Pradesh Labour’s Union (AAPLU) in a representation to the chief minister on Friday alleged misuse of Rs 4 crore under the labour welfare fund sanctioned during 2012-13 for construction of a labourers’ barrack and a guest house, and urged him to take early and appropriate action in the matter.
The union accused the state PWD of violating established procedures and not floating a tender or even submitting a completion report.
“The infrastructures were not handed over to the APB&OCWWB for utilization. Rather, the same is presently occupied by the contractors on the ground of non-release of their payment,” the union claimed, adding that the construction of the guest house is still incomplete, five years since
the project’s inception.
The AAPLU demanded blacklisting of the firm which executed the work for allegedly violating the state PWD norms and for causing inordinate delay in executing the project.
The union also stated that the inquiry report of the SIC in the matter has not been submitted even three years after the inquiry had been ordered in 2016.
The AAPLU further requested the chief minister to give strict directions to the APB&OCWWB’s chairman and secretary to carry out the construction of the projects, which include transit accommodation/labour shed-cum-night shelter with mobile toilet, and crèche facilities in the allocated land by adhering to the state PWD’s norms.
