Miscreants set bus in police custody ablaze

ROING, Feb 5: A group of miscreants broke open the entry gate of the police station here in Lower Dibang Valley district on 2 February, and vandalized and set ablaze a seized bus in the police station’s premises.
The flames were later doused by the fire brigade.
The bus had been seized in connection with an accident that had occurred on 1 February, in which a motorcyclist, identified as Ogan Lego, of Rayang village, had succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the bus fled the scene of the accident before the police arrived. The postmortem on the deceased was conducted on 2 February and the body handed over to the family for the last rites.
Six persons involved in the arson have been arrested, after they were identified through photos and video footage of the incident. A case has been registered against them under various sections of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
More arrests are likely as some of the miscreants are absconding.
“No one is above the law, and anyone trying to take the law into their own hands will be dealt with in a firm manner,” SP Sanjay Kr Sain said, and sought cooperation from Roing-based civil bodies, parental organisations and student unions. (DIPRO)
