RONO HILLS, Feb 8: The Rajiv Gandhi University Students’ Union (RGUSU) on Friday said it would boycott Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state on Saturday in protest against the citizenship amendment bill.
The students of the university will wear black and burn Modi’s effigy, the union said, adding
that a demonstration will be staged in the varsity campus to protest the bill.
The Students’ Union of NERIST and the Himalayan University Students’ Union have also announced agitational programmes in their institutes’ campuses to boycott the PM’s visit.
The students’ organizations have urged the general public and students of the state to not attend the function at IG Park to show their opposition to the bill.
“The bill, if it becomes law, can trample all indigenous rights,” the RGUSU warned.
Meanwhile, NESO coordinator Pritam Waii Sonam criticized the PM’s visit and said “the people of Arunachal are not all happy to welcome him.”
He appealed to the students across the state to protest the PM’s visit by wearing black on the day of his visit.
