Close shave for picnickers as flashflood washes away vehicles

DOIMUKH, Feb 8: Twenty-five picnickers from Lekhi-based Queen Public School escaped a flashflood which occurred in the Pare river here on Friday and washed away two vehicles, including the school bus.
Doimukh police station OC Banghang Tanzang said the incident occurred at around 4.30 pm when suddenly rising river water submerged the banks while the picnic party, comprising students and teachers of the school, were having their meal. The flashflood washed away the school bus and a Scorpio vehicle, while the picnickers managed to escape.
No FIR has been lodged in the matter, and the investigation, which was hampered due to darkness, will resume on Saturday, said Tanzang.
