Athletico register first win in MSL

MODEL VILLAGE, Feb 10: Sunday’s first match of the Model Super League (MSL)-2019 football tournament saw Athletico De Model FC register their first win at the general ground here.
The team, which includes many veteran players, beat the youngsters of Real Model FC by two goals to nil.
Led by seasoned captain Techi Tadap, the senior team showed their experience and won the match by goals through Techi Tada and RD Wangcha.
In the night match, two-time winners Commando FC continued their winning streak by beating Queens Gate Public School by three goals to one.
Taba Taram of Commando FC scored the fastest goal of the league in the 36th second of the first half, while Dungda Pui scored a brace.
Pui was given the ‘man of the match’ award by special guest Dr Nabam Peter.
Queens Gate Public School fought back and pulled a consolation goal, by the experienced Takam Tayam, but it was too little too late.
The next match will be played on 16 February between defending champions Petwa United FC (PUFC) and two-time champions Commando FC.

KFC beat Thug Life
Earlier, on Saturday, the tournament saw a high-scoring game between Khampu FC (KFC) and Thug Life Bulls, and ended with a 5-2 win for KFC.
Gungte Dolang, Taba Tader and Nabam Rodo scored a goal each for KFC, while Toko Tana scored a brace and took his tournament tally to five goals.
Karo Dada scored a brace for Thug Life Bulls FC.
The second match of the day saw defeat for a depleted PUFC squad.
In the absence of key players, including their talismanic striker Techi Tasar, PUFC were beaten by three goals to one by the tournament’s dark horses, Black Warrior FC.
Degio Nanu scored a brace, while Tadar Niting scored the third goal for Black Warriors FC.
Techi Takar scored the opening and only goal for PUFC.
