PASIGHAT, Feb 28: The ‘Arunachal Agri Expo-2019’, which was organised with the theme, ‘Boosting farm income through smart farming’, came to a conclusion at the College of Horticulture and Forestry (CHF) here in East Siang district on Thursday.
As many as 855 farmers and exhibitors participated in the annual event.
Apart from exhibition of various agricultural products by villagers from different parts of the state, the expo featured a farmers-scientists interaction programme to address the farmers’ issues and enlighten them about modern technology and innovative techniques.
Addressing the valedictory function, Dr BN Hazarika highlighted the scope and importance of horticulture in Arunachal Pradesh, and sought suggestions “to further improve it in the years to come.”
Pasighat GTC’s Assistant Agriculture Director S Dini expressed happiness over the active participation by farmers and scientists, and advised the farmers to make use of modern agriculture technology and machineries.
Prizes were also distributed to the exhibitors and the winners in various categories.
Apex Professional University VC Dr Kanwal Singh stressed on ensuring quality rather than quantity of products, and asked the farmers to move towards entrepreneurship in the future.
He emphasized the importance of citrus products of the state, particularly orange and litchi, “through which farmers can increase their income and solve unemployment.”
Deputy Commissioner Kinny Singh encouraged the farmers to “adapt to new and innovative technology for increased horticultural production and productivity for the betterment of the state.”
East Siang KVK Head Dr Mahesh Pathak also spoke.
