MENGIO, Mar 1: An awareness campaign was held at the general ground here in Papum Pare district on Wednesday to make the area free of cannabis (ganja) production.
Addressing the participants, NGO Save Anne Mengio’s (SAM) chairman Gyamar Tana said several people are cultivating ganja, “which needs to stop.”
He urged the district administration to take strong action to check the supply of cannabis to the capital complex. “The government should extend support to these farmers by providing alternative farming sources,” Tana said.
Rev Likha Tach of the Nyishi Baptist Church Council highlighted the ill-effects of drugs, polygamy, etc, and appealed to the people to shun the money culture and vote for only those candidates who promise true development.
Mengio EAC (in-charge) Rubu Tabio elaborated the effect of use of drugs on health and the economy.
Among others, Arunachal Pradesh Catholic Association co-convenor Chukhu Tadap, BJP leader Tarh Hari, SAM secretary Tarh Sama, and Papum Pare District Goan Burah Welfare Association secretary Nabam Tahi addressed the gathering.
