ITANAGAR, Mar 3: The state’s men’s handball team gave an impressive performance by winning two group level matches in their maiden participation at the 47th Senior Men’s National Handball Championship, which was held at Thiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, from 23 to 28 February.
“Arunachal had beaten Mizoram and Andaman & Nicobar Islands and lost to formidable Railways and Goa,” informed Arunachal Handball Association general secretary Nabam Lera.
Goa and Railways advanced to the quarterfinals from their group with better goal differences, he said.
The state team, which returned to the capital on Sunday, was led by Neelam Tagi as team captain.
Lera said he is satisfied with the performance of the Arunachal team in the tournament, adding that he hopes for better and improved performance in the coming days.
Lera informed that Arunachal will also participate in the 23rd East Zone Handball Championship for men and women, to be held at Nalbari, Assam, from 15 to 17 March.
