Chopper services under EC radar

ITANAGAR, Mar 11: State’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Kaling Tayeng said that only the Naharlagun helipad will be used for chopper services during the ensuing assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
While responding to the queries of the media about the potential misuse of chopper services by star campaigners to ferry illegal money during elections, the CEO stated that enough measures have been placed at the Naharlagun helipad to check any such misuse.
“The Raj Bhavan helipad will be closed for election-related activities. Recently, we also had a meeting with the officials of the Civil Aviation department, wherein it was instructed to strictly monitor the movement of VVIP and VIP at the Naharlagun helipad,” he said.
The CEO also informed that no large boxes will be allowed as carriage in the chopper.
“If the election officials find anything suspicious, they have the right to frisk and check the items being carried in the chopper. Also, wherever star campaigners go for campaigning, videography will be made upon their arrival at the helipads,” added Tayeng.
