EOs for strict checking of candidates’ expenditures

AALO, Mar 20: Election expenditure observers (EO) for West Siang district, Jagdish Prasad Jangid (parliamentary election) and Amanjit Singh (assembly election) stressed on strictly checking the expenditures of the candidates with regard to cash transactions, movement of liquors, media publications, use of vehicles for rallies, and making of posters, banners and hoardings.
The observers said this during a meeting with Deputy Commissioner Swetika Sachan and the district’s nodal officers on Wednesday, and asked the nodal officers to file daily reports on the expenditures.
The DC presented a brief on the measures being taken to check violation of the model code of conduct in the district. The administration has already issued an executive order banning carrying of arms, ammunition and lethal weapons.
In West Kameng HQ Bomdila, EO Ratnesh Kumar Singh urged the officials engaged for the elections to diligently check any violation of the model code of conduct, and to ensure adherence to the expenditure ceilings prescribed by the Election Commission of India.
Singh on Tuesday held a meeting with the returning officers, the flying squads, the static surveillance team, the video surveillance and viewing teams, the accounting team, income tax officials, and the media certification & monitoring committee to review poll preparedness.
Acknowledging the difficulties the poll officials of the hill states face in reaching various polling stations, the EO expressed hope that the electioneering process in the district would be smooth and successful.
In Papum Pare district, the EO for Itanagar, Doimukh and Sagalee assembly constituencies, N Kheda Varta Singh, asked the teams of election officials to work in coordination and strictly adhere to the ECI guidelines for smooth conduct of elections.
Singh, who was addressing the election officials during a meeting in the ZPC hall in Yupia on Wednesday, also instructed the nodal officers to prepare a checklist of items to be videographed by the video surveillance teams as per the ECI guidelines.
