ITANAGAR, Mar 28: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed candidates with criminal antecedents contesting in elections to the Lok Sabha and the state assemblies to publish information about their criminal cases in widely circulated newspapers and through television channels on at least three different dates.
“A political party that sets up candidates with criminal antecedents is also required to publish information about their criminal background, both on its website and in newspapers and television channels on three different occasions,” the ECI order said.
The requirements are in pursuance of the judgment of the Supreme Court on various writ petitions, said additional chief electoral officer of the state, Kanki Darang, in an order he issued to the district election officers on Thursday.
The state CEO office has earmarked three highest circulated local daily newspapers of the state in which the declarations are to be published.
In case of Arunachal Pradesh, the dates of publication of the declaration are from 29 March to 9 April.
