AALO, Apr 7: Mopin festival of the Galo community was celebrated with pomp and traditional gaiety at Gumin Kiin here in West Siang district on Saturday.
Participating in the celebration, Deputy Commissioner Swetika Sachan appealed to the Galo community to maintain its rich, age-old culture. Praising the community’s hospitality, she said the Galos have many things to offer to the outside world.
The DC also urged the people to ensure peaceful elections in the district.
“Three years of continuous association with the festival and festivities has made me an integral of part of the celebrations, and it will linger forever in my life, even if I leave this place, and I will for wait Mopin more than for Diwali,” she said.
Celebration committee president Dr Nyage Geyi and secretary Kengam Ete spoke on the significance of the festival. They stressed on keen participation by the elders and the youths of the community in the festival to preserve its rich value.
Central Mopin Preservation and Cultural Society president Mijum Lona spoke on the mythological aspects of the festival. (DIPRO)
