NAMSAI, Apr 14: The 129th Bhim Rao Ambedkar Jayanti was observed at the Pariyatti Sasana Buddhist Vihara here on Sunday morning.
Taking part in the event, Deputy CM Chowna Mein recalled the life and history of Ambedkar, who was a jurist, an economist, a politician and a social reformer. He inspired the Dalit Buddhist movement, and campaigned against social discrimination towards the untouchables. He also supported the rights of women and labourers.
“Ambedkar used education as a tool to rise above the ordinary and become one of the greatest leaders of modern India,” Mein said.
“An effective fighter against discrimination present in a caste-ridden society, Ambedkar became one of the chief architects of the Indian constitution, and used his education to spearhead the cause of equality, fraternity and liberty,” he added.
