ITANAGAR, Apr 16: Upper Siang district BJP Minority Morcha president Samten Wangdi passed away after suffering a massive stroke while on election duty as a polling agent at Kope village in Tuting subdivision on 11 April.
Wangdi (52) was rushed to the Tuting CHC, but succumbed to the stroke in the intervening night of 11 and 12 April.
“He was a veteran political figure and a social worker of Tuting, and rendered valuable services to the people of Upper Siang during his long social and political career,” the state unit of the National People’s Party (NPP) said in a condolence message.
“In his death, we have lost a renowned social worker, a perfect gentlemen and a visionary community leader who dedicated his life for the welfare of the people of Tuting subdivision,” said the party.
State NPP president Gicho Kabak and vice president Nima Sangey Saling on behalf of the party’s workers and office bearers conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.
Saling, along with Upper Siang district NPP president Pema Nyisur and public leaders of Tuting subdivision, attended the funeral programme at Wangdi’s native village, Kopu.
