ITANAGAR, Apr 18: Union Housing & Urban Affairs Secretary (H&UA) Durga Shanker Mishra called on Governor BD Mishra at the Raj Bhavan here on Thursday and discussed the implementation of central government projects.
The two discussed the progress of the smart city projects, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), Swachh Bharat Mission, the 10% lump sum grant being reserved for the development of the Northeast, the National Urban Livelihoods Mission, and several other issues related to urban development.
The governor emphasized on providing basic civic amenities to improve the quality of life for all, especially the poor and the disadvantaged.
Stating that the focus should be on creating infrastructure to provide better services to the citizens, the governor also advocated creating opportunities for skill development and helping the unemployed youths in setting up self-employment ventures by ensuring easy access to credit.
He also stressed the need to provide shelters equipped with essential services.
The governor envisioned that use of technologies for upgrading the indigenous house-building materials of the region, like bamboo, to make them more durable could be explored within the ambit of the PMAY.
He also advised the visiting official to address the livelihood concerns of the urban street vendors.
Union H&UA Joint Secretary Kunal Kumar was also present at the meeting. (Raj Bhavan)
