ITANAGAR, Apr 26: A 12-year old girl was sexually abused, allegedly by a 17-year-old boy, at her home in Kamba in West Siang district on 19 April.
The girl is mentally disabled.
The incident came to light after the girl’s paternal uncle lodged a complaint at the Kamba police station on 21 April. In his complaint, the uncle alleged that the accused had on 19 April sexually assaulted his niece at her home. He also alleged that the accused had been sexually abusing her for many days.
The police arrested the accused on the same day, and a case under Section 354/376/21L IPC r/w Section 4/6 of the POCSO Act has been registered against him. A medical test has also been conducted.
Speaking to The Arunachal Times, Kamba police station OC W Ronrang informed that the accused was a frequent visitor to the girl’s house as he and one of her uncle’s sons (who used to stay at her house) were friends.
“On 19 April, at around 4:30 pm, the accused went to the girl’s home and, finding her alone, sexually abused her,” the OC said.
He informed that the accused has been presented before the court of the chief judicial magistrate for hearing.
Meanwhile, the girl’s uncle in a representation to the West Siang deputy commissioner on Wednesday requested her to direct the law enforcing agency to ensure that the case is investigated in a free and fair manner, so that the culprit is awarded stringent punishment as per the law.
He also urged the authorities not to grant bail to the culprit.
