DHEMAJI, Apr 30: The Dhemaji District Journalists’ Association (DDJA) has vehemently condemned the recent attacks on journalists in various parts of Assam and urged the state government to enact a special act for the protection of the working journalists.
The DDJA expressed grave concern over the attacks on four journalists, including a woman, in separate incidents in Nalbari, Dhubri, Tinsukia and Jorhat districts recently.
Members of the association held a meeting here on Tuesday and adopted a resolution to move the Assam government to ensure safety of the working journalists and provide compensation to the journalists who were attacked by miscreants.
Terming the attack on journalists “inhumane and anti-democratic,” the DDJA members called upon the working media persons to stand united and fight against anti-democratic elements.
Among others, senior journalists Dilip Hazarika, Ashini Duwara and Premananda Talukdar attended the meeting.
