ITANAGAR, May 2: Chief Secretary Satya Gopal appeared before the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in New Delhi on Thursday in a hearing related to the implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules (SWM), 2016, the Plastic Waste Management Rules (PWM), 2016, and the Bio-Medical Waste Management (BWM) Rules, 2016, in Arunachal Pradesh.
During the hearing, the CS explained before the NGT the various stages of development with regard to the implementation of the SWM, PWM, and BWM rules in the state.
The NGT gave several directions to be implemented by the state. It also sought action taken report from the state government within six months.
Earlier, the NGT had sought personal appearance of the CS on 27 March, but the CS had sought exemption because of the election processes underway in the state.
HCFs asked to comply with BWM rules
Meanwhile, the Arunachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (APSPCB) has asked all occupiers and operators of health care facilities (HCF) to strictly comply with the provisions under Rule 13 (1) and (4) of the Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules, 2016.
Rule 13 (1) states that every occupier or operator of common biomedical waste treatment facility shall submit an annual report to the prescribed authority in Form IV on or before 30 June of every year.
The annual reports should also be available online on the websites of the occupiers, the state pollution control boards and the Central Pollution Control Board, the APSPCB stated in a release. (With input from CSO)
