Captured leopard released in Tengapani RF

NAMSAI, May 9: A male adult leopard which had ventured into Tissue village in Namsai district recently was trapped by the villagers on 7 May.
The villagers then reported it to the forest officials of the Medo territorial range under the Namsai forest division.
According to reports, the forest officials, with assistance from the Tinsukia (Assam) unit of the Wildlife Trust of India, tranquilized the leopard, caged it, and brought it to the range office on the same day.
Quoting local villagers, Namsai DFO (T) Tabang Jamoh said the leopard had killed a number of cows and other cattle in Tissue village, and had created panic among the rural farmers.
Forest officials led by Jamoh, after completion of
veterinary check-up of the leopard and having received instruction from the PCCF in Itanagar, released the leopard in the dense jungle of the Tangapani reserve forest (RF) on Thursday.
