Yekar seeks action on booth capturing

DAPORIJO, May 10: Sticking to his claim of booth capturing having taken place at the Soki polling station, allegedly by the BJP, Janata Dal (United) candidate for the Daporijo assembly constituency in Upper Subansiri district, Dikto Yekar, said the complaint lodged by his election and polling agents and the 17 electors who were allegedly deprived of exercising their voting rights has not so far been taken up with the higher authority properly by the district election officer (DEO).
In a press statement, Yekar said the DEO, following instruction from the general election observer, had
recorded the complaints of the ‘deprived’ electors and assured to convey their grievance to the CEO, along with other facts and findings regarding the party’s complaint.
The JD (U) candidate claimed that the CEO had sent a letter to the DEO, directing him to submit the factual report (of the complaints made by the JD (U) and the deprived electors).
The JD (U) candidate has been demanding re-polling in Soki, alleging that BJP supporters indulged in booth capturing, proxy voting and voter intimidation there.
He alleged that BJP supporters did not allow 17 voters of the JD (U) to cast their votes after intimidating them, and indulged in proxy voting in the name of five dead persons whose names were on the electoral roll.
Yekar also claimed that BJP supporters physically assaulted a female voter during the voting on 11 April and did not allow the polling agents of the JD (U) and the Congress party to sit inside the polling station.
The deprived voters also staged a dharna in front of the deputy commissioner’s office in Daporijo, Yekar added.
