ITANAGAR, May 19: Sleepy town Daporijo, the headquarters of Upper Subansiri district, was rocked by the gruesome murder of three persons on 17 May.
A man identified as Boda Motu (32) allegedly killed his brother, Rechu Motu (40), his sister-in-law, Meena Motu (35), and his wife, Juli Motu (35), on the night of 17 May, informed Upper Subansiri SP Keni Bagra on Sunday morning.
Boda later surrendered before the police, with the dao with which he had committed the crime, the SP said.
The accused is currently in police custody.
The SP informed that the incident occurred at around 10 pm on 17 May at victim Rechu’s house in Upper Abo Tani Colony in Daporijo town.
Investigating officer, Inspector Gejum Basar, said the incident occurred after a fierce argument broke out between the accused and his brother over the wife of the accused. Basar said the accused and his wife were in a strained relationship, which had caused the wife to run away from home. The wife of the accused had returned to Daporijo during the elections, and was staying with the family of the brother of the accused.
When the accused came to know of it, it apparently infuriated him, and he went to his brother’s house, got into a heated argument, and killed his brother, before killing his sister-in-law and his wife.
The brother and sister-in-law are survived by a six-year-old son. The accused also has a seven-year-old son.
The police said both the boys were present in the house and witnessed the crime.
Postmortem was conducted on Saturday and the bodies handed over to the relatives for the last rites, the SP said.
