ITANAGAR, May 29: State leaders of the National People’s Party (NPP) on Wednesday assured unconditional support to the newly formed government and the state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Speaking to reporters here after the swearing-in ceremony of the state cabinet, NPP state legislature leader Mutchu Mithi said “I am sure he will take the state to greater heights. However, our unconditional support does not mean we will remain quiet. We will remind the government about their responsibilities from time to time. People have hopes based on your promises, which is why you have formed the government. While we assure our support to fulfil those promises, people will hear our voices from time to time,” Mithi said.
He also thanked the people of the state for supporting the NPP in its first election here.
“Though we won only five seats, our candidates in all the constituencies were extremely strong contenders.
But Rome was not built in a day and we will gradually take the party forward and fight for the aspirations of the North East people,” he added.
He also informed that the party members recently met with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh regarding the attack on and assassination of MLA Tirong Aboh, and were given an optimistic response.
“We are hopeful that measures will be taken soon. We have also sought an investigation from the National Investigation Agency. The request now has to be forwarded by the state government, which we hope the state government will do,” Mithi said.
