Rijiju meets cyclists’ contingent for world championship

NEW DELHI, Jun 4: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs & Sports, Kiren Rijiju, on Tuesday met athletes at the IG Stadium here and assured them that for him the needs of athletes come first.
The minister met the Indian contingent of junior cyclists which is going to participate in the World Cycling Championship in August, and are leaving for Germany on Wednesday.
He wished them luck, and assured them of all necessary support.
Rijiju also met the women’s boxing teams of India and the Philippines, who are currently training in the stadium.
“Hard work and discipline are the only two ways of being successful in any sphere of life,” he told them.
The minister also visited the gymnastics hall, where he met young gymnasts who have joined the Sports Authority of India’s Come and Play Scheme, which is meant for freshers and those who have just taken up the sport.
He enquired about ways to identify talent through the scheme, and spoke to a number of athletes.
