YINGKIONG, Jun 20: Upper Siang DC Karma Leki has asked the district’s government departments to take preventive and precautionary measures in view of the monsoon season.
Addressing a meeting of the district’s disaster management authority here recently, the DC asked the officers present to ensure proper stocking and placement of food grains, medicines, essential commodities, etc, besides ensuring provision of drinking water, power supply, communication, and such, “so that any eventuality that occurs during the rainy season may be dealt with efficiently.”
Upper Siang faces multiple disasters like landslides, floods, flashfloods, etc, during monsoon, which severely affect surface communication, telecommunication, water supply, electricity supply, etc. The DC therefore emphasized on proper coordination between the HoDs, the BRO, the Army and the public to deal with such disasters.
Leki also urged the heads of administrative outposts of the district to remain at their places of posting during the monsoon season and be available to assist the administration in coping with disasters.
The officers on their part presented the monsoon preparedness measures taken up by their respective departments. (DIPRO)
