CS calls for proper treatment of biomedical wastes

ITANAGAR, Jul 27: Chief secretary Satya Gopal on Friday emphasized the need for proper treatment of biomedical wastes through the nine existing incinerators, as well as improving waste management facilities in the state.
Gopal was addressing a meeting of the state level committee on solid waste management to review the progress in the implementation of the environmental rules in the state, including the Solid Waste Management Rules, the Plastic Waste Management Rules, and the Biomedical Waste Management Rules.
Invitee from the National Green Tribunal (the apex monitoring committee for implementation of solid waste management), C Srinivasan, spoke about the ‘Garbage to gold’ concept in the implementation of solid and plastic waste management. Srinivasan has been engaged as a consultant for launching pilot solid waste management projects in Itanagar and Naharlagun.
All the deputy commissioners were advised to send annual reports to the SPCB on time for compliance with the Solid Waste, Plastic Waste and Biomedical Waste Management Rules.
