DC urges farmers to form FPOs

MAHADEVPUR-III, Aug 9: Namsai DC Tapasya Raghav emphasized on forming farmers-producers organisations (FPO) on livestock in the district “to bind all the farmers with a common interest residing in the remotest areas of the district for economic improvement as well as nutritional security of the farmers.”
The DC was addressing a function held to mark ‘Celebration Egg Day’, jointly organized by the Namsai KVK and the Namsai Organic Spices and Agricultural Products Producer (NOSAPP) Ltd at Mahadevpur-III village on Friday.
Sixty-six members of the NOSAPP participated in the programme, which was aimed at promoting healthy poultry egg production in the rural areas through scientific rearing of cross-bred birds with minimal inputs. The participants were also provided with the Kalinga brown variety of poultry to rear.
The DC lauded both the KVK and the FPO for their initiative for the rural poor and said it would “help ensure nutritional security through scientific production of quality eggs and meat, and at the same time it will provide opportunity of employment and promote income generation activities in the district.”
The NABARD’s District Development Manager, Kamal Roy, spoke about the various agriculture-based centrally and state sponsored schemes which are supported through the NABARD.
He urged rural youths, farmwomen and unemployed youths to form FPOs “and motivate the people to take up profitable livestock farming in collaboration with the KVK.”
Mahadevpur EAC W Mossang, Namsai DVO Dr RD Jindal and Namsai ADFS K Jawal also encouraged the farmers to take up scientific ways of farming for better productivity.
Animal science expert Dr BKD Borah explained scientific poultry farming, along with processing and value addition to its products, and emphasized on promoting organic poultry farming.
