JAIRAMPUR, Aug 12: The first Inter-Club District Badminton Championship of Changlang district was inaugurated by Diyun MLA Samlung Mossang and local MLA Laisam Simai at the multipurpose hall here on Monday.
Organised by the Changlang District Badminton Association under the aegis of the Arunachal State Badminton Association, the two-day sporting event will see eight men’s teams and four women’s teams from Kharsang, Diyun, Miao, Bordumsa, Jairampur, Nampong, Changlang and Manmao competing for the coveted titles.
The championship will be played in three categories – men’s singles, men’s doubles and women’s doubles.
Addressing the inaugural function, Mossang encouraged the youths to participate in sports activities on a regular basis. “It will not only keep you fit but also prepare you for future competitions,” he said.
Before declaring the event open, Mossang donated Rs 1 lakh to the organising committee as a sign of encouragement.
Simai also asked the youths to excel in individual games and sports.
“We have plenty of talent, but we lack the platform for individual talents to shine. Our government is determined to create platforms for local talents by building infrastructure. This multipurpose stadium is also a part of that platform-creating exercise,” Simai said.
13th Assam Rifles Commandant Manish Sharma and Jairampur ADC SS Choudhury also spoke.
