NIRJULI, Aug 25: The NSS cell of the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science & Technology (NERIST) organized an orientation programme for its newly enrolled volunteers here on Sunday.
Three hundred new volunteers have joined the institute’s NSS cell.
The cell’s coordinator, Dr Aheibam Dinamani Singh, highlighted the motto of the NSS, and urged the volunteers to “respect time and be part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.”
The institute’s Forestry Department Associate Professor, Dr Ksh Lal Bihari Singha, spoke on the current trends of climate change, while its Agriculture Engineering Assistant Professor, Dr T Patel, informed that the NERIST has become a member of the national level executive committee of the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, a flagship programme of the union HRD ministry.
Dr Patel also spoke about “the need to connect the youths to rural India to understand their problems and strive to find solutions.”
NERIST CMO Dr Popi Tok told the volunteers about the importance of voluntary blood donation. She also advised the youths to follow a healthy lifestyle, stating that “lifestyle-related diseases are the greatest obstacles to the growth of the country.”
“Deficiencies should not be a stumbling block in one’s journey towards success. We should introspect to find our deficiencies, and then work to overcome it. Only then can success be guaranteed,” said NERIST Director Prof HS Yadav. He also urged the volunteers to be active members of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, the Jal Shakti Abhiyan, and such.
The NERIST NSS cell is planning to adopt three more nearby villages, apart from the two villages it has already adopted.
