Training on scientific farming held

NAMSAI, Sep 9: The Namsai KVK on Monday conducted training programmes here on ‘scientific cultivation of black gram’ and ‘scientific goat farming’ for the rural youths and practicing farmers of Juna-III village.
Addressing the 33 farmers who participated in the programme, plant protection scientist Madhumita Sonowal Bora discussed the concept of scientific cultivation of black gram. She also informed them about various methods of pest and disease management in black gram.
Problems faced by the farmers with regard to cultivating various crops were also discussed.
Animal science specialist Dr BKD Borah explained the importance of adopting scientific technology in goat rearing to enhance productivity. He explained the ongoing activities on nutritional security and livelihood improvement through scientific goat farming in Namsai district, funded by the NABARD regional office, and how the farmers can benefit from the project.
Dr Borah urged the farming community to breed their estrus females with improved variety bucks like Sirohi, Jakrana, etc, that are available at the KVK’s institutional farm here, for production of improved cross-bred kids.
KVK Head Dr Manish Kanwat spoke on the KVK’s activities, and encouraged the farmers to adopt organic farming. He also advised them to avail the facilities and technology available with the KVK.
