DOIMUKH, Sep 21: Personnel of the 12th Bn NDRF, led by Commandant Umesh Kr Thapliyal, conducted a cleanliness drive in the areas adjoining the battalion’s headquarters here on Saturday as part of the Swachhta Hi Seva (SHS) programme.
Volunteers from the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) of Imphal West (Manipur) also joined the drive.
Meanwhile, the six-day disaster management programme for the NYKS volunteers concluded at the battalion’s HQ on Saturday.
In West Siang district, officials and members of the administration, the urban development & housing department, NGO Galo Ane, market committees and the public participated in a cleanliness drive in the Old Market area on Saturday as part of the SHS programme.
A cleanliness drive was organised in Tawang also, under the supervision of DC Sang Phuntsok, on Saturday.
Members of the Aalo Elite Housewife Society (AEHS), an Aalo (West Siang)-based NGO, also conducted an awareness programme on cleanliness at the Old Market there.
AEHS secretary Gedam Kamsi distributed paper bags to the representatives of the market welfare committee.
Earlier, Padma Shri awardee Lama Thupten Phuntsok was appointed as SHS brand ambassador for Tawang.
Meanwhile, in Upper Subansiri HQ Daporijo, DC Kanto Danggen convened a meeting with stakeholders, including members of the market committees and colonies, to discuss ways to effectively implement of the SHS in the district.
The DC also sought support from the departments concerned in ensuring the success of the programme. (With inputs from DIPROs)
