CHIMPU, Oct 5: Thirty-two teams, including one from Manipur, are participating in the 25th Vishwakarma Football Running Trophy tournament, which got underway at the KV No 2 ground here on Saturday.
The tournament, organized by the Lion Club, Chimpu, will conclude on 27 October.
Addressing the inaugural function, TK Engineering Consortium Pvt Ltd chief managing director Techi Rotu lauded the organizers for hosting the event, and said the participation of 32 teams “is a huge encouragement and success.”
Stating that such events offer a platform to youths to channel their energy and skills, Rotu said it was praiseworthy that the youths of the state participate in such events despite the lack of infrastructure.
The inaugural match was played between T Group FC and Young Generation FC, in which the latter defeated the former by 1-0. Damin Ruru of Young Generation FC scored the lone goal of the match in the 37th minute.
